What Is Business Internet?

Business internet is an internet service built for commercial use. Compared with home broadband, it adds service level commitments, priority fault restoration, the option of a static IP and support from a team that knows your account. Enterprise Ethernet and fibre also give you dedicated bandwidth that isn’t shared with the neighbourhood.

A business-grade connection suits teams that rely on video calls, cloud apps, VoIP phones or moving large files between sites, where the dropouts and peak-time slowdowns of a shared home service cost money.

Databox Solutions has supported more than 1,000 Australian businesses since 2017. We supply the connection, manage it and support it, and you can add your phone system and IT support.

Residential: shared with your neighbours, so speeds vary at peak times.

Several homes sharing one line, with data bunching up

Enterprise Ethernet and fibre: a dedicated line, with upload as fast as download.

A business on its own dedicated line, with data flowing evenly in both directions

Internet Problems Businesses Shouldn’t Deal With

We solve the connectivity frustrations that slow your business down every day.

Slow Speeds at Peak Times

Residential services slow down when the neighbourhood is online. Dedicated business connections such as Enterprise Ethernet and fibre hold their speed through the day.

Dropouts During Video Calls

A dropped connection mid-client call or team meeting costs credibility. Enterprise-grade connections are built for reliability, and 4G failover can take over if the main link drops.

Multiple Bills, Multiple Providers

Internet here, phone there, IT support somewhere else. We bundle everything on one bill with one support team, so there’s less admin.

Long Wait Times for Support

Sitting on hold with a faceless provider when your connection drops. Our Brisbane helpdesk has your account details on hand when you call.

FAQs

Business Internet FAQs

What is the best business internet for an Australian business?

It depends on your address, team size and how much an outage would cost you. Business NBN suits many small offices. Larger or more cloud-reliant businesses often need fibre or Enterprise Ethernet, with a static IP, a managed router and 4G failover. Pick the plan that matches your site, not simply the cheapest or fastest one advertised. We supply and support business internet Australia-wide, with on-site teams in Brisbane and Melbourne.

How much does business internet cost in Australia?

Entry-level Business NBN plans typically start around $80 to $100 a month for 50/20 Mbps. Prices rise as you add upload speed, a static IP, stronger service levels or 4G failover. Symmetrical plans (100/100 Mbps and up) and Enterprise Ethernet cost more, but come with committed speeds and stronger service levels. We quote a fixed monthly cost for your address, so you know the cost upfront.

Is Business NBN better than residential NBN?

For most businesses, yes. Business NBN adds options that standard residential plans usually don’t include, such as a static IP, priority business support and service levels. If you use VoIP phones, cloud software, VPN, CCTV or remote access, a business plan is usually the better fit.

What internet speed does my business need?

For a small office with light-to-moderate cloud use, 50/20 Mbps or 100/40 Mbps is often enough. If your team runs lots of video calls, large file transfers, cloud backups or VoIP, look at symmetrical speeds of 100/100 Mbps or more, where upload matches download. Upload, latency, router quality and contention affect real-world performance as much as the headline speed.

Why does upload speed matter for my business?

Video meetings, cloud backups, sending large files, hosted phone systems and remote CCTV access all depend on upload, not just download. They’re usually the first things to struggle on a low-upload connection. That’s why a symmetrical connection often performs far better for business than a high-download, residential-style plan.

Do I need a static IP for my business internet?

You may need a static IP if your business uses VPN, remote desktop, firewall rules, CCTV remote access, hosted services, VoIP systems or secure external access. A static IP gives your business a fixed internet address, which makes these systems easier to manage and support.

Business NBN or Enterprise Ethernet: which should I choose?

Business NBN suits many small and medium businesses. Choose Enterprise Ethernet, a dedicated business-grade fibre service, if you need symmetrical speeds, more upload, stronger service levels or more reliable connectivity for critical operations. As a rule, weigh business continuity first, then performance, then price.

Is fibre or Enterprise Ethernet available at my address?

It depends on your exact address. Most metro and many regional premises can get fibre to the premises (FTTP), and thousands of sites sit inside NBN Business Fibre Zones in capital cities and regional centres, including Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. Enterprise Ethernet is available there, sometimes with reduced build costs. We check your address before recommending a connection, so you’re not quoted for something that can’t be delivered.

Does my NBN connection type affect my business internet?

Yes. Fibre to the premises (FTTP) runs fibre all the way into your building and gives the best speeds and reliability. HFC (cable) and fibre to the curb (FTTC) can also reach high speeds. Fibre to the node (FTTN) and fibre to the building (FTTB) use copper for the last stretch, which can limit speed, and fixed wireless can be affected by weather and distance from the tower. We check your address and connection type before recommending a plan. See our guide to the types of NBN.

Can I run VoIP phones or Teams Calling over Business NBN?

Yes. Many businesses run VoIP phones and Teams Calling over Business NBN. Call quality depends on upload speed, latency, router quality, network setup and failover, not only download speed. Because we provide both the internet and the phone system, we design them together, which can make call quality issues quicker to diagnose than with separate providers.

What happens if my business internet goes down?

Without a backup connection, you can lose cloud apps, email, EFTPOS, VoIP phones, remote systems and file sharing until the service is restored. A 4G failover connection can keep essential services online during an outage, switching over automatically so your team can keep working.

Do I need 4G failover for my business?

If even a short outage would stop you taking payments, making calls or accessing cloud systems, failover is worth it. A 4G backup connection sits alongside your main internet and takes over automatically during an outage, so phones, EFTPOS and email can keep running. It’s especially valuable for retail, medical, and any business where downtime directly costs money. For critical sites, we can also add a second fixed line from a different supplier or on a different physical route, so a single fault is less likely to take out both connections.

Can my business run on 4G or 5G internet?

Mobile 4G and 5G speeds change with signal strength and network load. That’s why we offer 4G as a failover connection alongside a fixed NBN, Ethernet or fibre service. If the main link drops, the 4G connection takes over automatically, helping keep phones, EFTPOS and email running.

How long does it take to connect business internet in Australia?

A Business NBN connection typically takes between 1 day and 4 weeks, depending on building access and the NBN technology at your address. Fibre and Enterprise Ethernet typically take 6 to 8 weeks to install, and can take longer if your site needs new infrastructure, is heritage-listed or needs NBN to make changes at your address. We manage the order and installation and keep you updated on timeframes for your site.

Can you switch my business internet without downtime?

In most cases we can keep downtime to a minimum. We provision the new connection and configure your router and network before cutting over, so the switch from your old service is as smooth as possible. Where a brief overlap or transition window is needed, we plan it around your business hours and can use 4G failover to help keep you online during the changeover.

Which areas of Australia do you provide business internet to?

We provide and support business internet Australia-wide, including Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and regional centres, and we can manage connectivity for offices in several states from one point of contact. Our on-site teams are based in Brisbane and Melbourne, with remote provisioning and support elsewhere. For remote or rural sites where NBN fixed-line services aren’t available or reliable, we can set up Starlink satellite internet. Not sure we cover your area? Contact us and we’ll check your address.
