The basics
MDR (managed detection and response) is security monitoring run by people. Antivirus blocks known threats on each device by itself. MDR adds Bitdefender’s security operations centre, where analysts review alerts, hunt for signs of an attacker already inside your network, and take response actions such as isolating a device.
It runs on Bitdefender GravityZone Business Security Enterprise, the endpoint protection installed on each computer and server. Bitdefender’s analysts cover the 24/7 monitoring. Our team handles the setup, your questions and any follow-up work in your environment.

Bitdefender MDR adds pre-approved response actions, a call from a security account manager within 30 minutes of a declared incident, and an after-action report with root cause analysis.
MDR PLUS adds a dedicated security account manager with quarterly reviews, dark web monitoring for leaked data and look-alike domains, and brand and IP protection.

Partly. MDR detects and responds to attacks, while the Essential Eight is mostly about prevention: patching, application control, restricting admin privileges, multi-factor authentication, regular backups and more. Those controls are set up in the rest of your IT environment.

Yes. MDR runs on Bitdefender GravityZone Business Security Enterprise. If you already use GravityZone, we can usually add MDR to it. If you use another antivirus, we replace it with the GravityZone agent. We also work alongside internal IT teams, who keep running their own systems while we manage MDR.
