The basics
Business Premium includes everything in Business Standard: the desktop Office apps, business email, Teams, and file storage in OneDrive and SharePoint. It’s for businesses with up to 300 users.
On top of that, it adds Microsoft’s security tools for smaller businesses. Defender for Business protects laptops and phones, Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 checks links and attachments in email and Teams, Intune manages devices, Entra ID P1 controls who can sign in and from where, and Purview labels and protects sensitive information.
Several of these tools need configuring for your business before they do much, including conditional access, device enrolment and data loss prevention. We set them up as part of every Business Premium rollout.
Each person can install the Microsoft 365 apps on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets and 5 phones.
Compare plans
Both plans include the Office apps, business email and Teams. Premium adds the tools for protecting accounts, devices and data.
Business Standard
Business Premium
Staff who only use the web and mobile apps can go on Business Basic with Entra ID P1 and Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 added, which costs less. Business Premium is also sold with Copilot built in. See Microsoft 365 Copilot.
How it works
We switch the security tools on in stages and test each one with a few people first, to avoid locking staff out of email or files.
We work out who needs Business Premium and who can use a cheaper licence, then buy or switch the licences.
Multi-factor sign-in for everyone, separate admin accounts, and conditional access rules such as requiring a managed device.
Safe Links, Safe Attachments and impersonation protection, starting from Microsoft’s recommended preset policies.
Company laptops and phones enrolled in Intune and Defender for Business. On personal phones, work data can be removed without touching anything personal.
Sensitivity labels and data loss prevention rules, such as a warning before someone emails a tax file number.
Why us
Anyone can buy Business Premium licences online. The security tools only help once they’re set up for how your business works, and that’s the part we do.
As a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Modern Work, we supply Business Premium licences and can raise issues with Microsoft for you.
We’re ISO 27001 certified, and we set up Business Premium’s security tools during the rollout.
Annual terms cost less per month, while monthly terms let you drop licences sooner. We’ll explain the trade-off before you commit.
We can look after your Microsoft 365 from then on: new starters, leavers, licence changes and security settings.
Our Brisbane and Melbourne team handles setup, training and day-to-day questions.
Licences are billed with your IT support, phones and internet if we look after those too, on one Australian invoice.

Not necessarily. Business Premium’s security and management features only cover people with a Business Premium licence, so Microsoft recommends it for everyone.

It includes tools for several Essential Eight strategies, such as multi-factor authentication, patching operating systems and applications, and restricting Microsoft Office macros.
The licence alone doesn’t meet a maturity level. That depends on how the tools are set up and maintained, so we check where you stand first.
Business Premium is licensed per user, per month. Microsoft charges more per month on a monthly term than on an annual one. You can add licences at any time, but on an annual term you generally can’t reduce them until it renews.
The total depends on your licence mix and whether you want us to manage it, so we quote instead of publishing a price. Request a quote and we’ll set out the options.
Yes. Microsoft lets you switch from a qualifying plan such as Business Standard to Business Premium, and your email, files and Teams stay where they are. The extra security tools then need setting up, which we do as part of the upgrade.
