Do I need a Desktop or Laptop?
One of the biggest questions we have been asked is “Should I get a Desktop or Laptop computer?” The answer is… it depends on your needs. Before purchasing your laptop or computer, consider what best fits your business needs. Below I will discuss the following features of both computers to make this decision easier.
A desktop computer is designed to be in one location, such as your office or home. It is a powerful computer that has numerous parts - a computer case, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord. Desktop computers are not powered by a battery. Which means you can use them for longer periods of time. However, you cannot run them without the main power source. The large structure of the desktop computer means there is more room inside the desktop to add or remove hardware, use tools, and organise cables. Thus, upgrading your desktop computer is easier than ever. However, this large size and multiple components mean that transporting the desktop computer is limited. There are multiple internal drives in a desktop computer, so you have greater data storage. You will not have to worry about running out of internal storage space. Furthermore, external storage drives can connect to numerous available data ports.
In comparison, a laptop computer is a compact and portable device. This is because it is an all-in-one device that does not require a fixed power source or desk. Laptop computers have a built-in monitor, a built-in keyboard, and a trackpad. This all-in-one design means you can go from the office to home and continue your work with ease. This compact computer is limited in size and can be used for more than 12 hours without needing a charge. Therefore, you will need a power source to charge this device.
When it is time to upgrade your laptop, you are only able to replace the memory and the hard drive. The remaining parts are built-in and cannot be removed. An upgrade is in the form of purchasing a newer model. This small, compact design only has room for one internal drive. Therefore, there is not as much internal storage available when compared to the desktop computer. Storage can be increased through external drives such as a USB and external hard drives.
